In 2010, the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) and the American College Personnel Association (ACPA), the two major professional orgnizations in student affairs, identified ten competencies that any practitioner in the field should demonstrate in order to be successful in their role. Each competency has basic, intermediate, and advanced-level skillsets that help professionals gauge their development in each section and help practitioners identify areas to improve upon. The competencies are:

  • Advising and Helping

  • Assessment, Evaluation, and Research

  • Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

  • Ethical Professional Practice

  • History, Philosophy, and Values

  • Human and Organizational Resources

  • Law, Policy, and Governance

  • Leadership

  • Personal Foundations

  • Student Learning and Development

Throughout this portfolio, I have listed the competencies and detailed my development and skills in each. My journey through student affairs is ever-changing and as such, I look forward to further developing these skills over time. Than kyou for taking the time to see how far I have come on my journey thus far with achievement of these competencies!
